Rajasthan has launched an ambitious Desert Solar Mirror Project in the Thar Desert to enhance solar energy output using heliostat mirrors. These mirrors track the sun and reflect additional light onto photovoltaic panels, increasing energy efficiency by 20%. The pilot is located near Bikaner and covers 2 hectares. The project is expected to produce enough power to supply 500 rural homes. Researchers from MNIT Jaipur are monitoring performance and heat absorption levels. The model is suitable for arid zones with high sunlight exposure and low vegetation. If successful, it could become a global template for desert solar projects.
